FAFP 2011 Award Nominations

Nominations for each of the award categories (with the exception of the Presidents Award) can be made by any member, in good standing, of the Florida Association for Food Protection and submitted prior to the deadline date of January 31, 2012. All awards will be presented at the Annual Business Meeting during the Annual Educational Conference May 8-10, 2012.

The person nominated for this award must exhibit the highest level of knowledge, skill, commitment and dedication to the ideals of food safety during their lifetime of service to Industry, Government or Academia. This lifetime achievement award should only be awarded to a person who has spent a majority of their lifetime in the food industry, inspection, research, or other related fields. The Board of Directors reserve the right of evaluating the qualifications of the person(s) being nominated and selecting the person best meeting these criteria.

  • 2008 Recipient – Kendall Burkett, DBPR Tallahassee
  • 2007 Recipient – Dr. Ron Schmidt, University of Florida
  • 2006 Recipient – Dr. H. Wayne Derstine, SGS United States Testing Company

President’s Award

This award is selected by the current President of the Florida Association for Food Protection and is selected based on the contributions made to the Florida Association for Food Protection, the State of Florida; its industries and/or educational institutions. The person selected must exhibit the highest level of commitment and dedication to accomplishing the goals of the Association and its members.

  • 2008 Recipient – Zeb Blanton, SGS United States Testing Company
  • 2007 Recipient – Eric Martin, Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville

Sanitarian of the Year Award

The person nominated for this award should exhibit the highest level of proficiency in the field of Food Safety Sanitation inspection or Quality Assurance in the field of food service, food inspection, processing, manufacturing, distribution, wholesale and retail for all areas in industry, government and academia related to food safety.

Laboratorian of the Year Award

The Laboratorian of the Year Award recognizes a FAFP Member for their contributions to the ideals of FAFP through their endeavors in the laboratory. It recognizes outstanding commitment in utilizing and developing innovative and practical laboratory techniques to support food safety.

  • 2008 Recipient – Dr. Gillian Folkes Dagan, ABC Research Laboratories

Special Recognition Award

The Special Recognition Award recognizes a FAFP Member for their contributions to FAFP.
